It seems most hardcore shooter fans know the difference between an Infinity Ward and Treyarch Call of Duty game at this point, with the former generally receiving higher praise. But Treyarch has done an admirable job of keeping the series alive between the two-year breaks of Infinity War games, and while the developer had its work cut out following the stellar Modern Warfare title, Call of Duty: World at War offers a lot of fun for first-person shooter fans looking to return to World War II. Title: Valkyria Chronicles

Platform: PS3

ESRB Rating: T

Publisher: Sega

Developer: Sega

Rating: ★★★★★

Review by: Bill Jones

Every once in a great while a stellar game like Valkyria Chronicles comes along – a critic’s delight that sees all the right pieces (beautiful visuals, great sound, engaging story and innovative gameplay) fall right into place, creating a masterpiece of the medium. And then it inevitably comes in under the radar and gets dwarfed by the sales of sequels, usually abysmal licensed titles and otherwise “safe” bets. (more…)

Title: L.O.G.’s Lost Challenges DLC for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts

Platform: 360

Review by: Dan Braun

L.O.G.s Lost Challenges downloadable content is a modest and moderately amusing addition to an already fun game, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, but it isn’t a necessity. (more…)

Chris Claremont – comic fans may have heard of him. He played an intregral role in the development of the X-Men during a long stint on the Uncanny series from 1975 to 91. Branching off the usual Marvel continuity, Claremont is to start X-Men Forever next month, featuring an alternate reality  that takes place immediately after X-Men #1-3, where he left off with the series.

Pads & Panels got on the phone with Claremont this week for an interview about the new series. That interview will appear Monday on the site.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (commonly known as E3) is right around the corner. Next week, as a matter of fact. It is one of the industry’s biggest events for hands-on time with upcoming games and traditionally the stage for major announcements.

Sadly, no one from the core Pads & Panels staff could make the trek out to Los Angeles for the event, but it still needs covering. So, we’ve recruited fellow gaming journalist and Bill’s Punkbands.com co-writer Chris Park, who will be in attendance and meeting with developers. Park has been kind enough to offer a daily update from the show room floor during E3. We thought readers would like to get to know Park a little better before reading his coverage next week, so we asked him to send a bio. He obliged. (more…)

Title: X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Uncaged Edition

ESRB Rating: M

Publisher: Activision

Developer: Raven Software

Rating: ★★★★☆

Review by: John Gustafson

Brutal. Bloody. Badass. James Howlett/Logan has been on the receiving end of many beat downs for years in his video games (save for X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance) and made to look and feel like a kitten instead of his codename. With X-Men Origins: Wolverine for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, Wolverine properly appears in all his ridiculous savage glory. (more…)

Title: Grendel: Devil’s Reign

Originally released in 1989 and concluded in 1990, Grendel: Devil’s Reign is notable not only as being Tim Sale’s first major comic book work, but also as the first time the seven-issue series has been compiled in a single book. (more…)
